New gold in old core at Island

Re-logging and re-assaying core from the Island gold deposit northeast of Wawa, Ont., has turned up indications of a possible mineralized zone for Patricia Mining (PAT-V).

Since February, Patricia has been testing a pair of shear zones over a strike length of about 1.5 km, and has relogged 24 of the holes it drilled between 1996 and 2001. The Island-Lochalsh shear is about 30 to 40 metres wide at surface and the narrower North shear about 20 metres wide. Both have been drilled to about a 250-metre depth, where there is still some gold mineralization.

Sixteen holes on the Island-Lochalsh zone show intersections ranging from 4 to 65 metres (in core length) where average gold grades run mainly from 1 to 5 grams per tonne. Some higher-grade parts of the zone sport “underground” style grades of 6.3 grams (over a 12.7-metre interval) to 20.1 grams (over a 6.2-metre length). Among the best intersections was a 12-metre interval grading 14.1 grams per tonne.

On the North shear, four holes cut wide sections of gold mineralization with grades of 0.9 to 4.8 grams per tonne. Widths ranged from 6 to 43 metres, including intervals of 14.8 metres grading 2.3 grams and 8.5 metres that ran 4.8 grams.
