SUMMARY:Recycling Metals from Industrial Waste
DESCRIPTION:Recycling Metals from Industrial Waste\, now in its 25th year\, focuses on current plant practices to convert metal-containing wastes to products. Processors\, raw materials\, and markets are identified and quantified. Speakers with decades of hands-on experience detail multiple approaches to recycling metals and associated materials – backed up by slides\, videos\, and the syllabus. \nParticular emphasis is given to combinations of physical\, hydrometallurgical\, and pyrometallurgical processing\, along with associated regulations\, to facilitate economical recycling. The presentations are on a practical level\, focusing on plant operations\, with ample opportunity for interaction by the course participants.

SUMMARY:“Advanced Mass Balancing and Inference” Short Course
DESCRIPTION:In order to optimize a mineral processing plant there are nine steps required:\n1.	Collect data (measurement)\n2.	Collate data (into a database)\n3.	Flowsheeting\n4.	Mass Balance\n5.	Inference\n6.	Determine Operational Parameter\n7.	Model fit\n8.	Simulate\n9.	Optimise\nMass balancing is often taught using least squares minimization. Inference is generally not taught and in the absence of inference\, model fitting is rendered very difficult\, which is why mineral processing simulation is generally much more difficult than it should be.\nIn this course we focus on mass balancing and inference. Whilst mass balancing is taught initially from a conventional least squares minimization approach\, the course then discusses a probabilistic or information theory approach. Information theory is a relatively new area of mathematics which is only available to participants through this course. By using information theory one can infer ore properties at each stream in great depth (i.e. multi-mineral particle distributions); thereby providing the basis for later steps (particularly modelfitting).

SUMMARY:Money Mining & Sustainability Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Gain the Latest Insights in Business Planning\n– Releasing value through better planning decisions\n– Exploring the latest developments in optimisation for the mining industry\n– Simultaneously optimising the whole value chain: mining\, mineral processing\, logistics\, production and capital\n– Incorporating sustainability considerations: social\, political & environmental\n– Planning and optimisation with geological uncertainty and volatile metal markets\n– Operational and cost modelling techniques for optimisation\n– Theory of constraints for mining\n– Implementing an effective planning process “Money Mining” \nOverview\nEffective long term planning can enhance the value of a minerals business by 5% – 35% or significantly more. This seminar details an optimisation methodology that involves 10 distinct mechanisms\, which when applied simultaneously can produce counter intuitive results that challenge conventional thinking on how to run a mining and mineral processing business. Covering the latest developments in optimisation methods\, the subjects span mine design and scheduling\, cut-off grades and stockpiling\, plant configuration\, product specification\, logistics and capital scaling\, incorporating a broad range of sustainability considerations\, a comprehensive approach to managing risk and uncertainty\, strategic optimisation and modelling techniques\, theory of constraints as it applied to a minerals business\, advanced cost modelling\, and implementation/change-management. The result is a comprehensive approach to asset management. \nIt shows how these disciplines can take the economic view of the business and coordinate their activities to extract value that is currently concealed between the organisational silos that the management structure creates. \nIt is also relevant to equity analysts\, venture capitalists\, fund managers and investment bankers who want to better understand the drivers of value in a minerals business\, and to be able to recognise where the full potential of a business has not yet been realised. \nThe principles examined are applicable to Copper\, Gold\, Lead\, Zinc\, Iron ore\, Coal\, Diamonds\, Bauxite\, Manganese\, Platinum and other commodities. Pit\, underground and complex portfolios of assets are covered.\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nThis seminar will change forever the way\nyou look at your mining business!\n\n\n WHO SHOULD ATTEND:\nThis seminar is designed for decision makers including:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n• Senior executives\n• Directors\n• Department\, divisional or project managers\n• Professionals who are currently\, or will be\, involved\nin the technical aspects of optimisation analysis\n• Institutional investors in mining funds\n• Financial analysts\n• Project financiers\n• Geologists\n• Mining engineers\n• Process engineers and metallurgists\n• Logistics managers\n• Marketing managers\n• Finance and HR managers\n(This is not a software course.)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSEMINAR CERTIFICATE: A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to all participants completing 90% of the total seminar hours. \nOUTCOMES OF THE SEMINAR: By the end of this intensive two day programme\, you will take back to your organisation fresh views of how economic value can be generated. You will be able to recognise the real drivers of value\, and how flexibility in all parts of the value chain can be harmonised and exploited to increase value and robustness of the business in the face of uncertain resources\, technical challenges and volatile metal markets.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout your expert trainer\nGerald has more than 30 years of experience in business planning\, analysis and change management in a range of industries in Australia and internationally. As Managing Director of Whittle Consulting (specialists in business optimisation for the mining industry) for the last 16 years\, Gerald handles optimisation project management\, optimisation strategies and model design\, business analysis and management reporting/presentations. Some major clients include Xstrata\, Vale/Inco\, BHP Billiton\, Minara\, Lihir\, Newcrest\, AngloGold Ashanti and Goldfields\, covering a range of commodities including Nickel\, Copper\, Gold\, Lead\, Zinc\, Coal\, Iron Ore and Bauxite. Bringing together important lessons learnt in other industries\, including activity based costing and the theory of constraints\, Gerald brings new light to the peculiar challenges of business planning and optimisation for the minerals industry.
